What is the value of your Health?

Having being part of the Wellness industry for just on 5 years, one comment that always baffles me is, "this is too expensive" or "I cannot afford it".

Its even more incredible when the person you are speaking to is overweight / obese and not very healthy.

What is the Value of your Health?

I've currently got a program which costs $170 per month where you can lose weight, become healthier and feel good about yourself. Now, this program is guaranteed. Plus on top of that you get a nutrition coach who will monitor your progress, motivate you and make sure you get results.

Ok lets take a look at the price of this program. $170 which will supply you with up to 60 meals per month. It will also supply your body with 100% balanced nutrition every day without you having to think about it. All you do is take 3 Multivitamins, 2 shakes and 1 Meal per day and you will lose weight, Guaranteed.

If you break this price up, it works out to be $2.83 per meal or $5.66 per day. Would you say this is extremely cheap considering you get all that I have stated above. And yes that includes a coach, WOW! How cheap is that.

So, What is the value of your health?

If a person tells me that this is expensive, then I question them. Is your health not worth $2.83 per meal?

Its quite amazing that people go to a McDonalds and spend about $10 per meal and they dont question it. They dont question, what value to my health am I getting in this meal for $10?

If a person decides not to start on a program, so what are the consequences of being overweight and obese. Take a look at the following link from the Department of Health & Ageing,

http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/content/health-pubhlth-strateg-hlthwt-obesity.htm

As it states here are the consequences,

"The health problems and consequences of obesity are many and varied, including musculo-skeletal problems, cardiovascular disease, some cancers, sleep apnoea, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension to name a few. Many of these are often preventable through a healthy and active lifestyle. In particular, obesity is strongly linked to type 2 diabetes, identified as one of the six National Health priority areas. There are several new large well conducted studies that have show a clear relationship between excessive body weight and increased mortality and morbidity. Mortality and morbodity are also associated with the amount of weight gained in adult life. For example, a weight gain of 10kg or more since young adulthood is associated with increased mortality, coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke and type 2 diabetes."

If you have a think about it closely, if an overweight or obese person decides not to get healthy and lose weight, the costs this person will endure in future years from various diseases associated from being overweight or obese are enormouse. Imagine all the drugs you will need to take and the regular doctor visits you will have to attend.

So if you are reading this and you have thought $2.83 is too expensive to look after your health and lose weight....well, I think you should think again.

I can get all the Nutrients from the food I eat...

I often hear the statement, "I can get all the Nutrients from the Food I eat".

In this blog I explore this statement and I will show you information which suggests that NO you cannot get all the Nutrients from the food you eat.

Vitamin & Minerals are vital nutrients for bodily functions and prevention of disease.

In a large 26,000 person study it was concluded that not one person received the nutritional requirements set forth by the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance). 96% of the Australian population dies of a disease - we are not getting proper nutrition.

According to the American Medical Association, "Insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic diseases...Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone. Pending strong evidence of effectiveness from randomized trials, it appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements"

Vitamin & Mineral Supplementation is necessary for the following reasons:
1. Crop nutrient losses - Decades of agriculture have overworked & depleted soils of minerals.

2.Poor Digestion - Eating too much or too quickly & stress can cause indigestion. Indigestion reduces absorption of vitamins & minerals.

3. Over-cooking - Can easily destroy valuable nutrients.

4. Microwave cooking - Studies suggest that microwave cooking alters the nutritional structure of food.

5. Food Storage - Length of storage & freezing deplete the nutritional value of most foods.

6 Food Selection - Eating a too limited range of different food groups will result in nutrient deficiencies.

7. Food Omission - Allergies to foods, crash dieting and poorly designed vegetarian diets omit significant dietary sources of nutrients.

8. Environment factors - Herbicides & pesticides are used on crops, leaving them with low nutritional value.

9. Antibiotics - Antibiotics interfere with the intake of essential nutrients.

10. Poor Lifestyle habits - Smoking, alcohol and caffeine can inhibit the absorption of vitamins & minerals or accelerate the loss of nutrients.

11. Stress - Be it physical or emotional, can increase the body's requirement of vitamins and minerals.

12. Out of balance - The Level of each vitamin and mineral in the body has an effect on others, so if one is out of balance (missing), all are adversely effected. With antioxidants, one is not nearly as strong as several combined as each greatly enhances the power of others.

13. Nutrient variance - There are substantial differences between one fruit or vegetable and another. One tomato can have 10 times more nutritional value than another - which tomato did you eat?

Vitamins and minerals in your body should not be viewed as independent substances, but rather as a cooperative network of nutrients working together. If one nutrient is missing, it throws the entire network of nutrients out of balance.

"A deficiency of a vitamin or mineral will cause a body part to malfunction & eventually break down - and, like dominos, other body parts will follow."
James F Balch, M.D., Prescription for Nutritional Healing

Your health, your Intelligence, your Energy and your Appearance are dependant on you replenishing your vitamins and minerals several times per day.

What Do Vitamins and Minerals Do for You?
  • Build Up Your Immune System, Illness and disease are not "caught". One doesn't catch cancer, heart disease or a cold. You create these ailments with deficiencies based on what you eat or don't eat.

  • Increase Your Energy Level, Vitamins & Minerals are involved in the release of energy from digested foods. Strong, lasting energy levels are good indicators of healthy vitamin and mineral intake.

  • Enhance Your Appearance, Skin clearness, tone, and elasticity, hair strength, thickness and color, fingernail strength, color and texture all depend on vitamins and minerals. Some people look 50 years old at 30. Some look 30 at 50.

  • Expand Your Intelligence, Brain function, ability to concentrate and memory require proper vitamin and mineral levels.

Everyone will die, but how you look and feel for the last 20 - 50 years depends on your lifestyle and vitamin & mineral intake throughout your entire life.

"Soil depletion levels of minerals in Europe at 72% over the last 100 years" 1992 Earth Summit Report.

UK Study published in the British Food Journal, 1997, compared the mineral content of fruit and vegetables between 1930s - 1980s. The researches found that there was a significant reduction in calcium, magnesium, iron and copper. The calcium content of vegetables fell 80%, magnesium fell 65% and copper fell 20% from their original 1930s level.

Lets get back to that statement, "I can get all the Nutrients from the food I eat". From the above evidence, I can clearly say NO, you cannot get all the nutrients from the food you eat.

It is clear that everyone has to start supplementing their nutrients through a supplement which supplies the human body with balance nutrition.

A company by the name of Herbalife make it of great importance that their products provide the human body with 100% balanced nutrition through its unique and advanced "Cellular Nutrition" products. Cellular Nutrition, Does your Weight Loss Program have it?

Here is a description of Cellular Nutrition by Dr David Katzin, M.D., Ph.D. David Katzin has a speciality in Cardiovascular Physiology. His an expert in nutrition and the interrelationship between Nutrition, health and disease presents the newest concept in Nutrition discoveries.

Key notes of this article
Definition of Cellular Nutrition, "Cellular Nutrition simply means a nutrition program that has been designed so that the cells of our bodies-the tiniest living units-are as fully nourished as possible. This allows the cells to grow and repair and to perform their functions with the maximum efficiently possible. The results are that we feel and look better, we are better able to prevent and fight diseases and to control our weight when necessary."

Due to the state of the average Western Diet, dieting and illnesses, just by eating the right foods is not enough for your cells and your body to be fully nourished.

Three stages to Cellular Nutrition,
1. Cleansing and repairing of villi in the small Intestines
2. Absorption of 100% balanced nutrition. Once the villi are repaired you are more likely to absorb all the nutrients your body is fed.
3 Cellular regeneration, your cells regenerate into healthier cells
The end result is the your feel and look better.

There are no other programs on the market that contain Cellular Nutrition except for Herbalife's Shapeworks programs.

The Cellular Nutrition program is simple to use. Its easy as 3-2-1. Take 3 Multivitamins a day, one before each main meal, have 2 delicious nutritional shakes and 1 healthy meal.

Your Personal Wellness Coach will assist in monitoring your progress so you can get the best possible results from your Cellular Nutrition Program

Cellular Nutrition
As more and more people hear about Cellular Nutrition, I find them asking certain key questions. 'What is Cellular Nutrition?' and 'What can it do for my health and the health of my family?'

To understand Cellular Nutrition, lets first look at the role that nutrition plays in modern health. Today, millions of people are aware that nutrition plays an important role, not just in terms of preventing chronic illness that can lead to catastrophic health problems, but that it has a vital role in our day-to-day well-being; how alert and energetic we are and the strength of our resistance to illnesses.

When most of us think of nutritional advice, we tend to think of the general guidelines which have been worked out by health authorities to avoid the kinds of excesses in our diets that can to lead to overweight conditions and can compromise the cardiovascular system leading to heart attacks and strokes. Most of this advise takes the form of 'Donts': Dont eat so much red meat. Dont eat so much fat, especially saturated fats. Dont eat so much sugar, salt etc.

Whereas this advice is very good (although often very difficult to follow) many nutritionally aware individuals are asking questions relating to what they should be eating and how they can be sure that they're getting all the essential nutrients and micronutrients. such as proteins, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

One of the disturbing findings of which we have become aware is that the same kind of eating habits that lead to excesses of fat and cholesterol in out diets also results in deficiencies of key micronutrients which are needed by our cells on a daily basis to maintain health and vitality: to allow cells to grow and repair, and to maintain the highest level of cell and organ function. The sad truth is for the vast majority of people is the average diet is a kind of double jeopardy, it contains excesses of foods that are harmful and can lead to disease. At the same time is has deficiencies of important vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients that are needed to maintain a high level of health and vitality.

Because of the explosion of health and nutrition information that we read about in magazines and see on television, many individuals find themselves searching for a better health program.

A program that can assure them of getting the kind of nutrition that will lead to better health. At the same time, they want a program which is practical, easy to use and which makes a difference in how they feel on a day-to-day basis. In fact, one of the most important elements that individuals look for in a health and nutrition program is that it will make a difference.

Countless individuals who are nutritionall sophisticated have tried program after program only to be disappointed in the results, either in terms of how they felt, or how it affected their weight (if they were searching for a weight control program)

They are tired of empty promises and exotic claims. They Want results.

Is is for these active, searching and interested people that Herbalife has developed its Cellular Nutriton Program.

Cellular Nutrition simply means a nutrition program that has been designed so that the cells of our bodies-the tiniest living units-are as fully nourished as possible. This allows the cells to grow and repair and to perform their functions with the maximum efficiency possible. The results are that we feel and look beter, we are better able to prevent and fight diseases and to control our weight when necessary.

Assuring proper Cellular Nutrition is considerably more complicated than simply avoiding a few excesses of the average western diet. It's even more than just adding a few vitamins, healthful foods, juices, etc.

Cellular Nutrition begins by taking in a complete nutritional program that includes all of the essential micronutrients, eating a balanced diet and avoiding the excesses known to be harmful. At the same time it means taking advantage of the wealth of information that has been gained from the botanical world by incorporating health-building, nutritional herbs.

One of the major differences about Cellular Nutrition is that an excellent nutritional program is a good beginning but it is only a beginning. Simply consuming good nutrition will not really make a difference if the body is not able to fully digest and more importantly, absorb all the nutrition that is consumed.

Most of the nutrients we consume are absorbed into our body through the villi of the small intestine. These are small, finger-like projections which specialize in the absorption of nutrients. Most of us take it for granted that our bodies absorb all the nutrition from our diets efficiently and completely. For all to many of us, unfortunately, nutrent absorption may be diminished or impaired as a result of severely compromised eating habits, persistent dieting and other factors which may be due to the severe stress that often accompanies modern life.

This means that many of us are eating well but not getting the full nutritional benefits. One very important aspect of the Cellular Nutrition program is to ensure that our bodies absorb, to the fullest extent possible, the nutrients we do consume. In this way, we can counteract some of the damaging effects of poor eating habits, a stressful lifestyle or even minor illnesses and begin a process of regenerating and revitalizing our cells with good nutrition.

Cellular Nutrition even goes a step further. An important part of the Cellular Nutrition program is a group of micronutrients and herbs which helps energize the body's cells so they can function more efficiently and use the nutrition to further improve health and vitality. This process of "Cell Activation' is a result of the exclusive and balanced micrinutrient formula contained in Herbalife's Cellular Nutrition program. The end result is - we feel the difference.

Herbalife's Cellular Nutrition program is state-of-the-art because it goes beyond the basic nutritional recommendations of what foods to avoid and provides the best herbal and micronutrition possible in an easy-to-use convenient form. It is also designed so that our bodies can absorb the essential nutrition and the cells can use the nutrition as effectively and completely as possible. The natural result of this is that our body's cells themselves are better nourished.

How do we experience this? We experience this as an increased sense of well-being, energy, vitality and alertness. At the same time, we are assured that our bodies are receiving the kind of nutrition to help prevent and fight diseases to the best of their ability.

For most of us who have been eating the average western diet, the results are quite dramatic when we begin Cellular Nutrition. We can actually feel and see the difference. We find that our health moves to a new and more vital level. We feel better and more alive. These results make us more highly motivated and it becomes easier to stick with a calorie reduced program to help control our weight.

Here is my recommendation. If you are searching for a better nutritional program, one that can help you feel the difference, its my belief that you will find what you are looking for in Herbalife's Cellular Nutritional Program.

Try it!

5th Step to Wellness: Make a plan of action that you can commit to

Why is it so important to make a plan of action that you can commit to?

First of all, if you dont have a plan, you will not get towards your goals.

Next, if you cant commit to your plan, then your plan is worth nothing.

So what type of plans would your Personal Wellness Coach provide you?

Your Personal Wellness Coach will give you the following:
  • A personal meal plan according to you body compisition.
  • A Weekly appointment plan where you will speak to you coach about your progress.
  • A daily exercise plan.

These plan have to be realistic and you will have to stick to these plans in order to accomplish your goals.

You also need to note that some of these new strategies that get implemented may be out of the normal for you. Therefore in order to find out that you can stick to a plan, you need to make sure you make an effort for at least 3 - 4 weeks before deciding with your coach that you need to adjust your plan.

This is another reason why regular contact with a Personal Wellness Coach is important in order for you to stay on track and keep you motivated towards your goals.

There are many nutritional products on the market though a magority of the time the main reason people dont stay on target towards their goals is that they lose motivation, they think their plan is not working and so go back to doing what they have always done which have gotten them unhealthy.

Also, your coach should give you an estimate on how long it will take for you to get to your goal weight, thats if you needed to lose weight.

A healthy weight loss is between 3 to 5 kg's a month. Therefore if a person needed to lose 30 kg's, then your coach should give you an estimate of approximately 6 months. Now this is realistic.

In our next blog I will be going through why it is important to get ongoing support from a Wellness coach in order to have a healthier future.

A wellness coach is someone that will assist you in looking at your Health and be able to support you towards your wellness goals.

Some things which a coach will do:

Alot of people dont succeed in their Weight Loss or Nutrition Program because they get discourage by their results and they give up. Your coach will be able to help you overcome this.

The Evaluation is a one-on-one meeting where the following will happen:

  • A body scan will be done which will give you a body anaylsis. This includes your bone density, body fat %, Your metabolic age, etc.
  • Provide you with information about good nutrition.
  • You will be given 16 questions about your daily nutriton and given a score out of 16 which will indicate whether you are getting all the nutriton you need daily.

First Step to Wellness: Define your Wellness Goals

Why is it so important to define your wellness goals?

We will use this example. You and your family got into a car to go on short holiday trip. Though the problem is before you all got into the car, you didnt talk about where you wanted to go.

What happens when you dont know where to go?....Well, you end going in circles and you dont end up reaching your destination or you will find it a painful struggle in reaching your goals.

So are you clear why it is important to define your wellness goals.

When you define your wellness goals, you have to also be specific. For example, If you want to lose weight, you need to define how much weight you want to lose and also set a date that you want to lose this weight. i.e. I want to lose 10 kg's in 3 months.

Other examples could be you want to become fitter. Be more specific and say I want to able to run for 14 km's without rest by end of March 30.

Another example, is that I want to tone my body. Be more specific and set a goal that you want to build biceps and lose 10% of my body fat in 2 months.

It is also important that when you set these specific goals, that you are realistic. You dont want to set a goal like you want to lose 10 kg's in 1 month. This is just not going to happen.

Next step after you set your specific goals, you want to note them down somewhere where you are able see these goals every single time. Get a piece of paper, write the goal down in big and bold writing on the paper and stick it on your fridge or pantry cupboard or bedroom noticeboard or where you will see it most of the time.

Also, write it down on a small card to put into your wallet or handbag. Look at it before you go to bed and wake up. Look at it when you have a weak moment where you are tempted to get off track towards your goal.

Lastly, note down what the Benefits are for me to acheive this goal. Also, note down what are the negatives for not achieving these goals.

In Summary

  • Define your goals and be specific.

  • Write down your goals in Big and Bold writing on a clean piece of paper.

  • Stick up your Paper of goals somewhere where you notice it all the time.

  • Note down the benefits of reaching your goals and the negatives of not reaching your goals.

In the next Blog we will going through the next step, Having an Evaluation from a Wellness Coach.

Reaching Ultimate Wellness

I start my Blog with the subject of Wellness. I start this because this is what I do, I am on a journey in helping people reach ultimate wellness. Even though Wellness has many meanings, meanings which involve health, financial prosperity, relationships, mental etc.

The main variations of wellness I will be touching on is Health and financial prosperity which I believe are the fundamentals of having a better life and ultimately reaching ultimate wellness.

Firstly lets define the the word "Wellness".

What is the Definition of Wellness?
"The condition of good physical and mental health, especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise and habits" according to the American Heritage Dictionary.

"Its about feeling better and looking better" according to Mark Hughes, founder Herbalife.

"Wellness is about waking up every morning and having enough time, energy and freedom to live the life you want"

According to Dr David Heber is a Professor of Medicine and Director, UCLA Center for Human Nutrition, "Good Nutrition is vital to wellness and enhances the overall quality of life."

What does Wellness mean to you?

So what are the factors that Impact Health?

  • Fast food diets that are high in fat and low in nutrients.

  • Overly-processed, convenience foods.

  • Sedentary lifestyle.

  • Pollution.

  • Stress.

  • Certain medications.

  • Lack of dietary fiber from fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

  • Not enough healthy sources of protein in our diets to support healthy muscle and bone.

  • Lack of proper rest.

The keys to Optimum Wellness

  1. Balance your Diet - You need to get enough of the right foods including colorful fruits and vegetables, protein, good carbohydrates and just enough good fats for the taste you want. You also need vitamins, minerals and fiber from dietary supplements to provide the nutrition missing from your diet that your cells need for good health.

  2. Exercise Regularly - regular exercise can help you feel and look your best. Exercise conditions your heart and relieves stress and makes it easier to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

  3. Drink lots of Water - Your body is about two-thirds water, in an average day you lose at least one pint of water even without excessive sweating. To feel your best, you should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.

Here are some steps for Achieving Optimum Wellness:

  • Define Your Wellness Goals

  • Have an evaluation of your personal wellness.

  • Identify key areas you need to impact to reach your wellness goals.

  • Get recommendations from your Personal Wellness Coach.

  • Make a plan of action that you can commit to.

  • Get ongoing support you need to stay on your wellness track for a healthier future.

Let me say I myself have not reach optimum wellness though lets just say that after 4 years at eating the right foods and doing regular exercise, I feel that my health has changed considerably.

I no longer get sick like I used to, in fact I hardly get sick at all. I do at occasions may get a sniffle, though this goes away within 24 hours.

I also used to have hay fever during the spring/summer season and now I never get this no more.

I also used to have sinus irritations which include constant sneezing, red irritated eyes and drowsiness and guess what... these symptoms don't occur no more.

I have managed to keep my weight constant for 4 years and my energy levels have always been high.

The human body is an incredible thing, it just shows that if you give it everything it needs in balance and have regular exercise, it manages to heal itself.

Just one more point I want to mention, that is with the all the way food is being grown and process there is absolutely no chance that a person can get all the nutrition it needs from the food they eat without getting overweight. The nutrition value in foods in these times compared to 50 years ago has depreciated so much that people will need to eat over 4000 calories to make sure they provide their bodies with the right amount of nutrition.

So, I suggest that everybody start taking high quality supplements which include a Multi-vitamin, Omega 3 Fish Oils, Calcium which include Vitamin D, an Anti-Oxidant and other supplements which may support the human body.

For 4 years now, I have always had a Herbalife Nutritional Shake which has all the right amounts of nutrients my body needs in balance which include Protein, Carbohydrates, Sugar & Fiber. I also take 3 times a day a Multi-vitamin, Omega 3 Fish Oil, an Anti-Oxidant, Calcium, Iron and fiber.
